“They’re coming to take me away ha ha! Ho ho, he he!”

Just as I thought I was going to have to be sent away to the looney bin just over a week ago, we got a break.

Through some miscommunication it was brought to light that Jason was indeed, on the job search. Some knew, some didn’t. Frankly, we were as confused by our own circumstances as anyone else. If you ever asked us in the past month, “So what’s happening with you guys now?” and we gave you blank looks or changed the subject, you now know why.

There was a need that needed filled at the Brethren National Office and Jason was contacted. After some dreaming and some discussion, he was called in for an interview a week ago Thursday, and on Friday was offered a job.

A job.

A job that will pretty much cover our needs for living expenses and health care exactly how Park Street did. A job that won’t start for two weeks after the last one ends. But you know what? That is a blessing, too. Because of a freelance design job I accepted months ago, we were entirely covered to pay living expenses for the month of August had Jason not found a job yet. Since the vacation time Jason had that wrapped up his employment at Park Street was by no means a “vacation”- it was spent worrying and burning out and stressing out and coming down to our last straw- has now been redeemed. It sounds dumb. But now we get to spend two weeks as a family and enjoying it. Knowing there is something at the end of those two weeks that will not only allow us to continue paying our bills and feeding our bellies, but something that Jason is genuinely excited and passionate about. Communication and public relations.

He gets the privilege of sharing and connecting with pastors and congregations throughout the Brethren Church, nationally and internationally. Preaching monthly, traveling, checking in on Pastors, and making sure that stories of that are happening in our denomination are being told. I’m so excited for him. In my opinion, he was made for this kind of role. Thank you, BCNO for giving him this opportunity. His wife also appreciates it greatly.

So with 5 days to spare from unemployment, he was offered a job. Amazing. God did come through in a big way. And he could have just worked at any job, but it was something that is so in line with who he is as a person. We’re still trying to see how the last two years have been shaping and molding us for this new role and beyond, and some of the details and mishaps in those couple years are starting to make sense. Not fully, but we’re breathing a bit easier lately. If I am not describing his job exactly, my apologies, I’m mostly speaking in generalities for the purpose of this post!

We have clarity! At last, a direction! What a wonderful place to being in after a season of “hurry up and wait”. We were longing for some clarity, some roots again and it was finally provided. There are some places in us we’ve discovered that need healing because of some circumstances in the last two years. We’re thankful they’ve been brought to the surface so we can deal with them. A huge weight has been lifted because of this job offer and acceptance. A new outlook and energy has been found, and we are so thankful that even when we thought God had forgotten us, He made a way. A way we didn’t anticipate but look forward to experiencing.

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, ¹⁸ may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, ¹⁹ and to know this love that surpasses knowledge —that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
